ClimatePartner is one of the leading service providers in the field of climate protection, helping companies in all sectors to create growth opportunities through voluntary climate protection. The international climate protection specialist is a TÜV-Austria certified provider of IT system solutions for efficient carbon management, including CO2 balancing and compensation. ClimatePartner enables its customers to fully and efficiently integrate climate protection solutions into their added value. The company was founded in 2006 with headquarters in Munich and has subsidiaries in Austria and Switzerland.
What is climate protection and how can we participate in it?
Climate protection aims to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2, thus limiting the greenhouse effect caused by humans. The starting point for all climate protection activities is an inventory of the amount of CO2 emissions caused by a company, a product or a service. These so-called carbon footprints allow you to identify the parameters for avoiding and reducing CO2 emissions. This can be done, for example, through efficiency measures and the use of renewable energies. By supporting climate protection projects, you can also compensate for emissions that can not be avoided in the short term.
What is meant by recognized climate protection projects?
Climate protection projects save CO2 emissions. This can be a hydropower plant in Guatemala, which improves the energy supply in the region without using fossil fuels such as coal and diesel, thereby causing CO2 emissions. This CO2 saving is tradable – in the form of emission reduction certificates. The mechanism of emissions trading enables global promotion of sustainable development and the avoidance of CO2 at the lowest possible cost. Different types of climate protection projects are used for this purpose – for example hydroelectric power plants, biomass plants, wind farms, afforestation and forest conservation projects.
How does climate protection work in the hotel industry?
In cooperation with ClimatePartner, your hotel is committed to climate protection. In the hotel industry, there are numerous opportunities for sustainable and climate-friendly action. For example, a hotel reduces its harmful greenhouse gas emissions by sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition, guests can enjoy regional and seasonal dishes from organic farming. In all hotel areas the waste can be separated and recycled. In addition, textile cleaning has a major impact on the consumption of water, energy and other resources. The towel change program as well as the cleaning service on request, offer the guests an individual scope for sustainable action. Further energy saving potentials are e.g. the use of LED lights and other modern technologies.
In 3 steps to climate neutrality:
1) Calculation of the CO 2 balance
In the CO 2 balance sheet of a hotel, all relevant greenhouse gas emissions are calculated and reported on a per-period basis. This CO2 footprint is systematically measured on the basis of all emission indicators, e.g. Energy consumption, textile cleaning, consumables or employee approach determined.
2) Reduction and Avoidance
Using the hotel’s calculated CO2 score, the largest emission drivers can be identified and action areas defined for CO2 reduction and avoidance.
3) CO2 equalization
All unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions will eventually be offset by support for climate change projects. These projects are proven to reduce CO2 emissions, are regularly audited by independent organizations and are certified to internationally recognized standards.
